Bracelet Size Guide Pt.2: Find Someone Else’ Bracelet Size Without Wrist Size

By Ginny • March 15, 2017 • Size Guides, Ultimate Guides

This guide will tell you how to find someone else’s bracelet size without their wrist measurement. If you are buying your own bracelet, refer to our Bracelet Size Guide Pt.1: How to Find Your Bracelet Size and Wrist Size.

Method 1: Measuring one of his or her existing bracelets

Step 1: Select the right bracelet

Pay attention to what type such bracelet is. Make sure the bracelet you measure is similar in both style and silhouette as the one you intend to buy: chain bracelet, beaded bracelet or charm bracelet.

Step 2: Measure the bracelet

Bracelet Size Guide Pt.2: Find Someone Else' Bracelet Size Without Wrist Size

Set it down flat on a surface. With a ruler, measure the length from the end of clasp to the end of the hook.

Note: What you get will be the “bracelet length”, “bracelet circumference” or “bracelet size”, not his or her wrist size. You can then compare the size against seller’s bracelet size guide or contact the seller to find the right bracelet size.

Don’t be tempted to measure the bracelet diameter, not the circumference as diameter is an extremely inaccurate measurement of bracelet size.

Method 2: Using the average bracelet size for women

Bracelet Size Guide Pt.2: Find Someone Else' Bracelet Size Without Wrist Size

“What’s the average bracelet size for women?” This is the question I get most often as many people try to buy an “average” size as a gauge.

Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” formula that will work for all women. For best result, you might want to measure your own wrist and compare that number to her size for a rough gauge at best.

But if you really need to guess, this table below reflects the average wrist size of certain body build and the corresponding bracelet length for an average fit.

Table: Estimated average female wrist size and bracelet circumference based on body types

Body height Body frame Estimated wrist measurement Recommended Bracelet Circumference for an Average Fit

(for thin cuff & chain bracelet)

Petite women

5’ – 5’4”

(153cm – 163cm)

Slim 5 ¼ – 5 ½” 6”
Normal 5 ¾ – 6” 6 ½”
Curvy 6 ¼ – 6 ½” 7”
Average women

5’5” – 5’7″

(165cm – 171cm)

Slim 5 ¾ – 6” 6 ½”
Normal 6 ¼ – 6 ½” 7”
Curvy 6 ¾ – 7” 7 ½”
Tall women

5’8″ – 6″

(173cm – 183cm)

Slim 6 ¼ – 6 ½” 7”
Normal 6 ¾ – 7” 7 ½”
Curvy 7 ¼ – 7 ½” 8”

Table: Estimated average male wrist size and bracelet circumference

Average wrist circumference Recommended Bracelet Circumference for an Average Fit

(for thin cuff & chain bracelet)

6 ¼ – 6 ½” 7 ½”
6 ¾ – 7” 8”
7 ¼ – 7 ½” 8 ½”
7 ¾ – 8” 9”
8 ¼ – 8 ½” 9 ½”

Note: as different cultures and people might have different definition of ‘slim’, ‘normal’ and ‘curvy’, here’s a visual representation for this guide:

Method 3: Purchase extenders and adjustable bracelets

Since the above 2 methods are still educated guesses at best, you should go for bracelet styles that allow for some adjustment room.

For example, all of Centime chain bracelets could be lengthened with an extender (as pictured) to allow the wearer to choose the most comfortable length.

Note: When you add the extender length to the estimated bracelet length, make sure it can be adjusted longer and shorter.

For example, if her estimated bracelet length is 7 inches, choose a 6.5” bracelet with 1” extender or a 6” bracelet with 2” extender. Don’t order 7” plus extender.

Another good adjustable choice is this C-shaped cuff bracelet, which can be shaped tighter or looser to fit the wearer.

Other adjustable types are: stretch bracelet with elastic cord, leather bracelet with sliding knots etc.
